  Chapter 1

  That day

She latches onto my body, her nails digging into my back.

“Fuck me, Jared,” she pleads. “Fuck me now.”

I chuckle as my cock grazes against her folds. She’s wet and ready and my cock throbs. I want this woman so much.

I lean over her, my weight resting on my forearms as I look into her eyes. Her big green eyes stare back at me, there’s a sadness in them that I hadn’t noticed before. Maybe because it’s the last time we’ll be together and she doesn’t want this to end.

I don’t want this to end either.

My thumb brushes against her cheek, but she instantly flinches, pushing me away.

“Let me fuck you,” she whispers.

I like the sound of that. I ease onto my back, shuffling up the bed, while her pussy clenches around my cock.

I draw in a deep breath. Fuck she feels good.

Her legs fall on either side of my body as she bounces on my cock. I reach up and cup her breasts, squeezing her nipples, thinking how good it would be to have her breasts in my mouth.

“Fuck,” I groan as I incline onto my elbows.

She closes her eyes as she arches her back.

  “Say my name,” she says.

It’s so unlike Savannah and I can’t help but smile.

  “What did you say?”

She hits my stomach as her hips rock back and forth. She dips her head, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of my lips.

“Say my name,” she says again, this time with more authority.

She arches her back as she intensifies her pace, her breasts bouncing up and down, while her fingers comb through her hair.

  “Fuck Savvy,” I moan.

She’s so fucking tight as she buries me deep inside, rotating her hips just the slightest so I can feel all of her.

“Fuck, Savannah, I never want this to end.”

I sit upright, my fingernails digging into her hips as I press a kiss to the inside of her shoulder. She tastes sweet and salty at the same time. She tastes like heaven.

I reach around her body and cup her ass in my hands. I’m about to flip her over and fuck her brains out when I see something—someone standing in the doorway behind us.

My mouth falls open. It’s her. It’s my wife and Savannah’s sister.

It takes a moment for my eyes to focus and the room to stop spinning. I blink twice and when the blur is gone, I focus on her face. Yep, it’s her. She’s here.

She smiles a big toothy grin.

“Hi, sweetheart,” she says. “What’s going on here?”

She’s practically laughing and I’m worried she’s gone insane.

I can feel the blood rushing through my veins as my heart struggles to contain itself inside my chest. What the fuck is happening?

Selina has this look on her face. She’s not distraught as I’d expect her to be or furious as she deserves to be. She looks strangely...smug. It’s as if she’s happy she walked in on us and I’m wracking my brain as I try to figure out why.

I immediately step into defense mode because that’s the way my mind works. When you’re losing a deal, slow things down and talk it out.

“This isn’t what you’re thinking Selina,” I say. “Let’s just talk this through.”

Her eyes blaze as she looks from me to Savannah and then back to me. Her eyes focus on my face, her lips pursed.

“You two are fucking pathetic.” She crosses her arms over her chest as she fights the emotion from her face.

Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Savannah scrambling around the room, collecting her clothes as she holds the bed sheet around her otherwise naked body.

She’s crying. My instinct is to walk over and wrap my arms around her, but with Selina staring at me, her hands on her hips, I can’t make my move. Not yet anyway.

Savannah rushes into the bathroom and closes the door, leaving me and Selina in the bedroom—our bedroom—alone for the first time in a month.

I look to Selina and she shakes her head subtly, her smile falling and for the first time, I sense her sadness.

“Why Jared?” she asks quietly. “Why her? Why my sister?”

I tilt my head to the side and answer her question honestly. “I don’t know.”

She laughs, but this time it’s an ironic laugh, the type of laugh you let out before you’re about to burst into tears.

“You don’t know,” she repeats softly. “What kind of response is that—you don’t know?”

She paces the length of the room, her hands deep in her pockets as she continues to shake her head.

I look down at my body and for the first time, I realize that I’m still naked. I grab a pair of track pants from the ottoman and step into them clumsily.

Selina looks at me for a long moment and then continues to pace the length of the room.

“I probably wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes. You kissing my sister, groping her, fucking her.”

She squares her body with mine. We stare each other down for a moment and even though there are eight feet between us, I can still see the fire in her eyes.

“Why’d you do it?” she asks.

  I shrug.

  “Why?” she asks again.

“I don’t know,” I mutter under my breath.

“Why?” she shouts and this time I hear the strain in her voice.

“I love her,” I say before I can stop myself.

  She stops moving…talking…breathing.

She looks as though I stabbed her in the heart, but it’s the truth that she needed to hear. I love Savannah and nothing will change that simple fact. Nothing.

I don’t hear the door open, I only notice Savannah is back in the room when Selina turns to look at her. The pain is evident on her face—on both of their faces—and I wonder if Savannah just heard my confession.

Selina draws my attention back to her, waving her finger in the air as if she still holds some kind of authority over me.

“You’re fucked, Jared. I’m going to take every last dime from your bank account. You won’t have one single asset left once I’m through with you.”

She clenches her jaw as she squares her face with mine.

  “I will bleed you dry.”

There it is. She wants my money. My father warned me about Selina. He said h
e sensed something the very first time he met her and maybe he was right after all. Luckily I took his advice and had Selina sign a prenuptial agreement.

“We have the agreement in place, Selina. Read the fine print.”

She laughs, her chest rising and falling as she struggles to hold her composure.

She starts walking towards me, one dramatic step at a time. “The prenup is null and void If you commit adultery, which you just did.”

I look to the bed, the covers ruffled, half of the pillows on the floor and then I look at Savannah—the good twin.

“Prove it, Selina. No one will believe you over me.”

Selina trots over to her vanity that sits next to the bathroom door. She pushes some items off the edge dramatically before taking hold of something in her perfectly manicured hand.

She closes the distance between us and holds the tiny black camera in front of her.

I want to call her bluff and laugh in her face, but the camera looks legit and it’s the type of act that has her fingerprints all over it.

I exhale through my nose. Selina is next level.

  “You conniving bitch,” I seethe.

Selina giggles, clasping the camera in the palm of her hand.

I feel defeated. Selina outplayed me. But then I remember the one factor she seems to have forgotten.

  “You're twins.” I smirk. “I’ll plead ignorance.”

She narrows her eyes as a wide smile spreads across her lips. “Oh, Savvy. Fuck, Savvy,” she imitates. “You said her name on multiple occasions, Jared. Or should I say, moaned her name.”

I think back to five, ten, fifteen minutes ago. Savannah and I were on the bed. Savannah had been acting weird—there was a sadness in her eyes—but she was begging me for sex, begging me to fuck her…and begging me to say her name.

I turn to look at her, my jaw clenched as the realization hits me with such force that I think I might vomit. Savannah played me.

  She fucking played me.

She’s huddled in the corner of the room, tears streaming freely down her cheeks. I thought she was sad because we were caught in the act, but she knew all along—she planned this.

I close in on her, my fists clenched as we meet face-to-face.

  “What have you done?”

I grab her by the arms, my fingers grasping her like a vice.

“What the fuck have you done?”

She shakes her head, the words that leave her mouth an incoherent mess.

“You were in on this. You were playing me.” It’s a statement, not a question. I know the truth now. I’d been blind to the truth before, but not anymore.

I shake her as my hands tighten around her arms.

“Please let go of me,” she pleads. “Please, Jared. Let me go.”

I’ll let you go alright, bitch.

  “Get out,” I mumble.

When neither of them moves, I repeat myself, this time louder.

  “Get out,” I shout.

I hear Savannah stumble against the bed as she grabs the rest of her shoes and rushes to the door. Selina doesn’t budge until I acknowledge her existence.

“You’ll be hearing from my lawyer,” she warns. “This tape will offer me quite the settlement.”

She holds the tape in the air as if baiting me. I won’t entertain her games, not tonight.

I need to think this through before I do something rash and make this mess worse.

“Leave,” I shout, pointing at the door.

I turn around, raking my hands through my hair before I lay one, two, three punches into the wall.

“Fuck.” I look down at my bloodied hand and that’s when I see it.

The photo from our wedding day. It’s framed by crystal and has sat next to our bed for all these years.

I take it in my hands and throw it against the wall. The crystal shatters into a thousand pieces, cascading on top of the bed. I collapse on top of the covers, the shards piercing into my skin slowly, agonizing and delightful at the same moment. The blood oozes from my body and onto the beige silk sheets.

My hand should throb and my bleeding back should sting, and yet, strangely I don’t feel a damn thing.

  Chapter 2

  Bang. Bang. Bang.

I pick up a cushion and smother my face with it. Maybe I’ll run out of air and die. The thought soothes me somewhat. I stop moving for a moment and listen. Other than the blood rushing through my veins, I can’t hear a thing. It’s strangely satisfying to be left in silence. Alone.

It’s been hours since they left, or maybe days, I can’t tell, but her perfume still lingers on my skin…her perfume and the sweetness of her pussy.

  Bang. Bang. Bang.

Through the duck feather pillow that’s covering my face, I can hear that damn banging.

“Fuck.” I throw the cushion across the room and stand up.

I rush out of the room and down the stairs. I’m surprised to see that it’s daylight out and I begin to wonder exactly how long I’ve been sleeping.

  Bang. Bang. Bang.

“I’m coming,” I shout as I reach the bottom of the stairs.

My bare feet hit the cold marble floor hard with every step. I’m ropable and whoever woke me from my slumber better be ready to receive a fucking earful.

My mouth hangs open ready to start the onslaught, but when I see her tear stricken face, everything stops. My heart, my breathing, everything inside me is still when I look at Savannah’s face.

She looks all doe-eyed and innocent. An angel in comparison to her evil twin, but I know the truth. This is all an act. Savannah Marone is the master of all games and I fell straight into her trap.

She tries to force a smile onto her lips, but it doesn’t eventuate. She sobs gently into the Kleenex she holds in her hand. I hope she doesn’t want any sympathy because I’ve got nothing to offer.

“What are you doing here, Savannah?” I rest my forehead against the open door as I wait for her to speak.

I assume she’s here to apologize and beg for my forgiveness. I should really tell her to save her breath, but it might be somewhat pleasing to watch her squirm.

“Jared…I…” She stops talking. I open my eyes and glance at her.

  “What?” I bite out.

She reaches forward, her fingertips brushing against the skin of my bicep. I instantly flinch out of her reach.

“What happened to you?” she whispers, reaching to touch me again.

This time I don’t move out of her reach. I look down at my body, realizing what she’s talking about. My body is covered in tiny scratches, most with dried up blood smeared beneath them. The photo frame, I remind myself.

I twist my shoulder, shrugging out of her reach. “It’s nothing.”

She pushes me inside and swings the door closed behind her. “It doesn’t look like nothing.”

She wipes her nose with the back of her hand as she gives me the once over.

“Your hand.” She points to my right hand. I look down at the red bloodied mess. My knuckles have split at the joints and my fingers are swollen and purple. Funnily enough, it doesn't hurt at all.

She rushes inside, her heels hitting the floor with urgency as she beelines for the kitchen.

I follow her, both annoyed by her presence and intrigued by it. I have no idea what she’s doing here and I can’t wait to find out. I lean against the kitchen counter as I watch her sift through the freezer and take a tray of ice cubes from the top shelf. She hits the plastic tray against the countertop and tips them into a waiting towel. She ties a knot in the towel and then hands it to me.

I take it and then throw it into the sink.

  “I’m fine.”

She shakes her head as she walks around the kitchen bench, taking the towel filled with ice cubes as she approaches me hesitantly. She presses the towel against my knuckles. I draw in a breath that whistles as it passes between my teeth. The ice is cold, but I welcome it against my skin.

  Minutes go by, or may
be seconds, I clearly have no concept of time anymore, but it’s a long time before either of us speaks.

I’m still dazed and half asleep, and Savannah looks as though she’s ready to break into tears at any moment.

My patience wears thin and I can’t take the silence—or her moping—any longer. “Why are you here?”

She sighs quietly, her eyes blinking rapidly as she looks up at me through her lashes. “Isn’t it obvious?”

I run my good hand through my overgrown hair. I don’t have the patience to play guessing games, especially when I’m not entirely sure I want to know the answers anymore.

“You know what, Savvy, nothing is obvious to me anymore.” I hold the towel against my hand as I walk over to the sofa and fall back onto the waiting cushions.

She follows me, tip-toeing as she walks and leaving ample space between us on the sofa. She seems afraid. She should be.

I stare straight ahead into the nothingness. She reaches for my hand, her fingertips grazing against my skin before she snatches her hand away. I look at her. For the first time, I really look at the somber woman next to me. Her eyes lock with mine. I can see into their sparkling green depths and wonder how I could ever have believed anything to come out of this chick’s mouth. She is a replica of her sister.

“You played me,” my voice cracks beneath the weight of my words.

Fresh tears surface in her emerald green eyes. “I didn’t,” she says, but then immediately she clasps her hand to her mouth.

We both know she played me, the real question is why?

The tears trickle down her cheeks within seconds, the force behind them so strong that she can’t hold them back. She’s full of hurt and it pains me to see her like this, no matter how hard I try to block out how much she’s hurt me.

“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.” She sobs, wiping her cheeks with her sleeve. “I know you don’t believe me, but I didn’t mean for this.”

I exhale the stale air from my lungs. When I inhale again, I get is a breath full of Savannah.

“I didn’t expect to feel this way,” she says between sobs.
